About the Spiritual World
n Great Britain Spiritualism is a legally recognised religion and the Church to which I belong in Fulham in London has a long affiliation with the Spiritualists’ National Union, the largest Spiritualist organisation in the world.
piritualism is classified as a science, a philosophy and a religion.
s a science, Spiritualism is based upon communicated knowledge from those in the spirit World.
piritualism recognises man's incapacity to discover all Truth and, in consequence of this it fetters nobody's opinions, it teaches its philosophical knowledge and demonstrates survival of the human spirit, but never enforces its beliefs upon anyone. Each person has the right to form his own judgements.
he Phenomena of Spiritualism shows the relationshiop between science and religion.
ithin the Philosophy of Spiritualism lies the key to an understanding of everything appertaining to the spiritual nature of man. This leads to a constant search for truth in all life.
piritualism rejects the idea that responsibility for our words an our deeds may, somehow, be shouldered by anyone else. Our starting point in the next phase of our life depends entirely upon our behaviour towards each other and our understanding of the values of relationships within our earthly life, upon our acceptance that we alone are responsible for all the good an evil we may do.
piritualist teachings demolish the man-made theological conception of heaven and hell, it encourages us to act to our highest sense of duty and stimulates spiritual growth and purity of living, thus preparing us for the great adventure of our continued existence.
ithin this religion can be found proof of man's immortality and the existence of that which is Spirit within the Universe. The knowledge that man cannot die, nor be destroyed, removes the fear of death; it releases mankind from the terror of eternal punishment and replaces it with an assurance that all people have the right to progress in ways which will enrich their eternal souls. The idea of a personal devil is swept away, being replaced by an understanding in thought, word and deed. To this is added the knowledge that within each one of us is a part of that Divine Essence which is God.
Spiritualist is one who knows that there is no death and life will continue, and knows that those in Spirit not only can, but do communicate when they wish to do so, and then only under the right conditions.
herefore, it can be seen that Spiritualism is a religion of love, reuniting friends and relatives who share memories, whom death has, temporarily, separated. It is a religion which brings comfort to the bereaved and lonely, and within which can be found a place for all who seek the truth about God and life. Spiritualists have no creed or dogma.
accept Seven Principles which are a guideline given from the Spirit World to help us live here in this world, to encourage us to make the best of our time here - to inspire us to live with consideration for all life, NOT just our families and friends, but with thought for everything with whom we share this beautiful world, including the animals, birds, seas, the earth on which we live. We have a responsibility to try to make this world a healthy and peaceful place for ourselves, our children, and future generations.

he Seven Principles of Spiritualism were given to us from a Spirit Communicator (Robert Owen - the co-founder of the Co-Operative Society) through the mediumship of a medium called Emma Hardinge Britten in 1871. They are:
- The Fatherhood of God
- The Brotherhood of Man
- The Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels
- The Continuous Existence of the Human Soul
- Personal Responsibility
- Robert Owen

- Compensation and Retribution for all the Good and Evil Deeds done on Earth
- Eternal Progress Open to Every Human Soul
he substance behind these words helps us to have a greater depth and understanding of ourselves and the meaning and purpose of our life here on earth - and this leads us to ask of ourselves one question: “Is this world a better place because I am here”. Have YOU made a difference?
ll I would ask of an honest investigator of Spiritualism and mediumship is that you keep an open and unbiased mind as you begin your journey. I hope too that you will one day find the happiness and peace that can come from the wonderful truth – that life is eternal - and that those who have passed to the spirit realms still care for, love, and watch over us from ‘the other side’.
